Mold Prevention and Remediation: Avoiding the Hazards of Mold by Addressing Water Damage

When your home or place of business suffers water damage, a hidden yet altogether dangerous and severe side effect may present itself in the form of mold. It is imperative that you treat any mold with swift efficiency, thoroughness, and vigilance to mitigate the amount of time and money it will cost you and eradicate the great hazard mold poses to your health.

A proper understanding of the process of water restoration will enable you to have a better approach and handling the circumstances. The extent to which you familiarize yourself with the process and cooperate corresponds to the speed with which our water restoration team can recover your home or your business and restore it to all its former glory.

The process of water damage repair, restoration, and recovery mainly involves the following steps:

1. Firstly, the technician who will repair or remove your water damage will visit the affected area and inspect it to decide whether you must seek a temporary place of residence while your house is undergoing the process. If a relocation to a hotel or other residence is required, please remember to retain any receipts as well as bills, as these will be necessary for acquiring the proper recompense when you file a claim with your home insurance company.

2. It is now the task of our water extraction services team to enter the affected home or business and remove any surface water or standing water. We generally use a wet vacuum of industrial strength to complete this step, which should only be undertaken in case of emergency. Standing water in your home or office which is allowed to remain for too long a time will catalyze the growth of mold and necessitate services which provide mold remediation.

Note: The contents of your home or office may require proper storage or even treatment for water damage. Rest assured that the technicians who work on your property have received training to handle your valuable belongings properly and with care.

3. After getting rid of standing water, the next step is drying, which involves using fans and industrial-strength dehumidifiers. These tools scatter particles of water and return water vapor to its liquid form.

Note: You must leave the equipment on for as long as the manager overseeing the water damage repair process says to do so, despite the unpleasantly noise and heat which the equipment can generate. If the equipment is turned off prematurely, you will waste time and run the risk of secondary damage from mold.

4. After our technicians have successfully extracted all standing water and turned on the drying equipment, the team will monitor the equipment and the property in twelve to forty-eight-hour increments. Sensors for heat and moisture will be used to assess which areas of the floors, the ceilings, and the walls still need work. Our team will reposition the equipment to concentrate on the areas of the property which are retaining the greatest amount of moisture.

Note: Moisture at this juncture is no longer visible to the naked eye. Your house or office may give you the illusion of being completely dry, but moisture likely lurks just beneath each of the structure’s surfaces.

5. Once we certify with our sensors that the humidity, moisture, and temperature levels have returned to normal in your property, we remove our water damage repair and restoration equipment and deem the process completed.
